Another Successful Dante Quiz Night Raises Funds for Local Community Project

October 26, 2016

It was fun and laughter all round at this year’s Fundraising Quiz Night organised by the Dante Alighieri Society which took place at the Italian Club on Fairway on 22nd October and attracted 220 people.

The competitive spirit of all the guests enabled an incredible

R28,500 to be raised for the community of Umzimkhulu which is a rural area suffering the effects of some ruinous social problems, with a very high level of unemployment and a worrying incidence of AIDS among the local population. Dante Alighieri Society and Mediterranean Shipping Company have been supporting this project for some time and have made a big difference to the community thanks to the funds raised from such events.

The night included an Italian buffet as well as other entertainment including an opera performance as well as dancing.

Dante Alighieri Society runs a language school in Durban which offers language courses for all levels including Italian, German, Portuguese, Spanish, English, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Zulu and Afrikaans. The purpose of the not-for profit society is to promote all things culture and to create a sense of peace and understanding amongst other cultures. Also on offer are a range of cultural, fun events such as the quiz night and their up-coming Opera Night on 3rd December.
