A hugely successful and wonderfully glamorous night took place on Saturday 3rd December at The Italian Club in Durban North. The club was transformed into a lush red and gold theatre and the crowd were left with goose bumps, and for some even tears, thanks to the incredible tones and tunes of four sensational performers.
Organised by the Institito Italiano di Cultura Pretoria, the Consulate Generale of Italy in Johannesburg and Dante Alighieri Society Durban & PMB, guests were treated to an unforgettable performance from four acclaimed artists including;
• Soprano, Khmbuzile Dhlamini who won the Arts, Culture & Tourism Eisteddfod and the South African Post Office Music Eisteddfod.
• Lucky Sibande who began singing as a boy soprano in church then went on to join the cenestra male choir as the youngest 1st tenor singer at the age of 19 under the baton of Mr Themba Madlopha.
• Soprano, Bongiwe Madlala who was one of four singers elected to sing at the Global Summit Women of the World, which was held in Hong Kong.
• Andrew Warburton is one of South Africa’s most distinguished keyboard virtuosi
…and what a combination this was! A truly Italian affair offering opera music at its finest by artists we can certainly be proud of here in SA. The 250+ guests were also treated to a delicious Italian buffet and refreshments.
We are already looking forward to next year’s Opera night!
